Agent: Arsenal ‘very much interested’ in €40m rated hitman

According to reports in the Italian website Calciomercato, Porto striker Jackson Martinez’s agent has revealed that Arsenal are very much interested in the  €40m rated Colombian striker.

Looks like he would handle England's physical game

The situation regarding the player’s future is getting interesting as there were reports earlier that Serie A sides Napoli and Roma were getting close to acquire the services of the dazzling 27 year old.

Martinez’s agent Peppino Tirri however squashed speculations from the Italian sides and claimed that Arsenal and Spanish side Valencia are now the front runners to sign his client.

“In Italy we have had very little contact, but for sure there have not been any offers made by Roma. There are, instead, opportunities abroad , Arsenal and Valencia in particular are very interested in Jackson Martinez.”

We had earlier reported that Valencia had already begun talks with the Colombian after Singaporean businessman and investor Peter Lim  completed the purchase of the Spanish club.

Martinez though is expected to decide his future after the World Cup, where he is expected to play a pivotal role for his country’s fortunes after Monaco star Radamel Falcao pulled out of the showpiece event albeit an anterior cruciate ligament damage sustained in January.

There is no doubt that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a striker who can challenge Olivier Giroud for a starting eleven spot. Martinez had a stunning season for Porto featuring in 41 appearances scoring 23 goals in the process.

The question however remains, “Will Wenger splash that extra cash to land the Colombian at the Emirates in the summer?”
