Adam Johnson could play for Sunderland again this season and help the team survive the relegation dog-fight after the club confirmed it will “review its position” regarding his suspension.

The 27-year-old was banned by the club after he was arrested on March 2 on suspicion of sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Johnson’s bail was extended by five weeks and could re-start his Sunderland career under new boss Dick Advocaat.

Daily Mail reports that Johnson has been training with a fitness coach, and the club may decide to lift the ban on him.

In that case, he could play his first match at home against Newcastle United in the Tyne-Wear derby on Easter Sunday.

Advocaat, who according to the club has an incredible CV, is probably not a long term solution, as Sunderland will look to appoint Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement in summer.

So, what next for Johnson? The allegations against him are unproven till now, but will he be treated well within the club and by the fans? Have your say below…
