AC Milan will focus on signing Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko after finalising an agreement to sign Olivier Giroud from the west London club, Spanish journalist Pedro Almeida claims.

Giroud has been heavily tipped to join the Rossoneri over the past few weeks, and they have reportedly agreed a transfer package worth €2 million.

The Frenchman is set to travel to Italy to undergo his medical with Milan, and it appears that he could soon be joined by compatriot and teammate Bakayoko.

Bakayoko has spent the past three seasons away from Chelsea on loan. One of those was with Milan in 2018/19, where he was impressive under Gennaro Gattuso.

The club are keen on a reunion with the midfielder and remain in contact with the Blues.

Sportslens view:

Bakayoko arrived at Chelsea after his Ligue 1-winning campaign with Monaco but failed to make an impact during his debut campaign in 2017/18.

He has since been deemed surplus to requirements under different managers and has spent time on loan with Milan, Monaco and Napoli.

A permanent switch to Napoli was considered an option earlier this year, but that appears unlikely now after the sacking of Gattuso.

Bakayoko has previously spoken about his desire to rejoin Milan. He could be prepared to take a hefty cut on his £110,000-a-week wages to join them.

The Blues purchased him for £36 million, but they are unlikely to recoup the fee, given clubs are aware that they are looking to offload him.

They have the option of extending his deal for another year. A loan with an obligation to buy next summer could be proposed by the Rossoneri.

Bakayoko, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, made 44 appearances for Napoli in the defensive midfield role last term. He bagged two goals and two assists.
