If we scan through majority of Manchester United’s transfer rumours published in daily newspapers, tabloids and websites, we get a fair idea, what type of transfers the club are trying to do, either in this January transfer window or next summer. Defence and midfield – are the two main areas Louis van Gaal needs to bolster, and with money being made available to him to spend freely, don’t be surprised if United pulls off one or two marquee deals.
UK press and Italian media have constantly speculated about the future of Kevin Strootman, the Roma midfielder, who has been a reported transfer target of Manchester United. James Ducker of The Times wrote United are certain to lodge a bid for him next summer, although Roma officials have time to time maintained that the Dutch midfielder won’t be sold.
Italian media TMW today have an article on AC Milan’s Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong. The defensive midfielder’s contract is set to expire in the summer and his chances of renewal are slim at the moment.
The Rossonerri are looking to sell him in the January transfer window, as they want to avoid losing the midfielder for free. TMW claim Louis van Gaal is serious about taking him to Manchester United while German club Schalke 04 are also thought to be interested in his signature.
The Italian giants are ready to sell him, provided the offer is right. Put it simply, if United come with a good offer, Milan probably cannot refuse. The question is – will United at all make a move for De Jong?
