According to reports in Italy, Serie A giants AC Milan are plotting a loan move in January for Chelsea’s forgotten man Michael Essien.
Essien, who spent the last season on loan under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, has only managed three league appearances this season with Chelsea under the same manager. The 31-year-old has been omitted from Chelsea’s Champions League squad and his agent Fabian Piveteau insisted that it could pave the way for a move in January to another big European club.
Essien was linked with a move to a return to his first club Bastia but his agent clearly ruled out such possibilities.
Now, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Essien is a winter target of AC Milan and Adriano Galliani may make contact with the Blues in the next few days over the possibility of a deal.
The Rossoneri have had a poor start to the season so far and are sitting uncomfortably in 11th place. Milan have already signed Keisuke Honda this month and Galliani would be looking to make few more signings as well.
Keeping in mind Milan’s financial constrain (limited budget), a loan move for Essien makes lot of sense. The Ghana international is eligible to play in the Champions League and would be a good fit for the club.
Essien joined Chelsea from Lyon in 2005 and went on to win two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League.
