Ander Herrera is all set to become the first major signing of the season for Manchester United, after reports emerged yesterday that the Red Devils had triggered his £28.8m release clause.
Herrera was targeted by David Moyes last summer, but failed to land him before the transfer deadline day as Manchester United refused to meet his release clause.
According to Mark Ogden of The Daily Telegraph, United found his release clause as excessive and not reflecting Herrera’s current value at the time.
However, new manager Louis van Gaal has identified Herrera as his prime target, while the deal is expected to be concluded within this week.
Herrera struggled initially this season at Athletic Bilbao, but played a key role helping the Basque outfit qualify for Champions League next season.
Spanish newspaper AS reckons that he will sign a five-year-contract at Old Trafford and will earn €3m per year wages. He has successfully passed his medical yesterday at Madrid and the expecting to wear the Red jersey within Friday.
Manchester United are also keen to land Southampton’s highly rated youngster Luke Shaw and have tabled a bid over £30m to secure his services. Furthermore, United are also interested to sign Dutch duo Daley Blind and Nigel de Jong, while are keeping close tabs on Borussia Dortmund’s world class defender Mats Hummels as well.
