Serie A side Lazio have said that it would take a bid of over £15m to prise star midfielder Hernanes from the Stadio Olimpico, with both Liverpool and Manchester United believed to be preparing bids for the 28-year-old.
Named the most promising footballer in the world in 2009 by ‘The Times’, Hernanes has earned rave reviews for his displays in Italy this season, having appeared 22 times for the Biancocelesti so far, and is attracting genuine interest from a host of European sides this January.
Liverpool are said to be interested in the former São Paulo man, with Brendan Rodgers eager to add further steel to his midfield this month. The club are slowly starting to slip out of the title race, and are in the market for reinforcements.
There have also been reports of an interest from Manchester United, with talkSport relaying the rumour that Hernanes’ agent flew to Manchester this last week for talks with Utd officials.
But Lazio president Claudio Lotito has told TMW (via talkSport) that the Serie A club will only consider a substantial bid for the player,
“I do not want to sell him, we will have to receive an indecent offer – £15m will not be enough.”
In light of Lazio’s stance on Hernanes, suitors will seemingly have to splash the cash to have a chance of securing the player this month, but with the Brazilian’s contract set to expire at the end of next season, this story could evolve very quickly.
