Finally there is some good news for Manchester United fans. The trusted and the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio website have confirmed that the Red Devils are finally set to acquire the services of World Cup star Marcos Rojo for €20m which will include Portuguese midfielder Nani’s return to his former club on a season loan deal. It is believed that Nani is expected to be in Lisbon tomorrow or on Wednesday to undergo his medical before signing his contract.
The report claims that Rojo is set to sign a four year contract with the Red Devils with an optional fifth year. Earlier English tabloid Guardian claimed this morning that Rojo is set to be a United player with manager Louis Van Gaal desperate to add reinforcements in his defensive backline. Moreover the 24 year old left back can also slot in as a centre back when required, one key feature of the flexibility that the new United manager wants in his preferred 3-5-2 setup at Old Trafford.
Rojo had however faced disciplinary issues refusing to train with his Sporting team mates to force his move to the Red Devils but the player apologized saying, “I was hot-headed and I’m sorry. I’ll be back with the rest of the squad tomorrow.”
“Sporting signed me when I was not at my best and gave me the opportunity to play for a big club in Europe. I would like to thank the trust they had in me and I will resume training on Monday.”
United had earlier been frustrated thanks to Rojo’s contract situation thanks to third party rights on the player. There had been a row between Sporting and the Doyen Sports investment group, the latter whoch owns 75 per cent of Rojo’s economic rights
The view from Portugal: Portuguese Media outlet A Bola have claimed that it will not be Nani, rather the player who is involved in the deal is Brazilian midfielder Anderson. However the report has cited English tabloid Daily Mail, the credibility of the latter which is yet to be verified.
