Chelsea 2-4 Manchester City
English Premier League
Stamford Bridge – London, England
Chelsea started off strong but fell apart in the second half as Manchester City got a surprising 4-2 win at Stamford Bridge.
The home side would take the lead on a Frank Lampard goal in the 42nd minute as he received a nice through ball from Joe Cole before shooting a low shot to the far post. Only three minutes later, Man City would catch Chelsea on the counterattack with a goal from Carlos Tevez. He received a long ball and was able to beat a few defenders before scoring on a low shot. It was not the best goaltending from Hillario but a great individual play from the Argentine.
The second half would be disastrous for Chelsea as Bellamy scored early to give City a 2-1 lead. After that, City continued to pull away with a penalty from Tevez and one more from Bellamy to make it 4-1. Chelsea was in position to get at least a draw in the match but too often they were unable to defend on the counterattack. There would be two red cards for Chelsea as Baletti was given one for the penalty (a foul on Barry in the box) and Ballack on a poor tackle.
The only consolation the home side had late was a penalty that was converted by Lampard in stoppage time. Chelsea’s lead is only at one point in the EPL while Man City’s chances of a top four finish are improving.
