Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.
The 24-year-old has a contract with the Italian club until 2022, and Milan are under pressure to cash in on him this summer.
They cannot afford to lose the Ivorian on a free transfer next year, and the player’s agent has revealed that the Premier League club are keen on signing his client.
The player’s agent told TMW (translated by Sempre Inter): “Today, having a contract expiring in 2022 with an important player, one of Milan’s strongest, is a danger. Here is a basic error by the club.
“Now [Kessie] is the one who holds the knife by the handle and can decide what is best for him rather than the club.
“I know that in addition to Inter, there are two Premier League teams interested in him, including Tottenham.”
SL View: Would be a surprising move from Spurs
Tottenham already have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele in the central midfield roles, and accommodating Kessie in the starting line-up could be tricky next season.
The Milan midfielder is unlikely to join a club where he won’t be a regular starter.
While he could play in a midfield three alongside Hojbjerg and Ndombele, it would leave Spurs with a defensive-minded midfield lacking in creativity and goals.
The Londoners are yet to appoint a long-term successor for Jose Mourinho, and it would be fair to assume that any transfer would have to wait until the new manager comes in.
They have held talks with several managers across Europe over the past few weeks but have not reached an agreement with any of their targets.
Here is what the Spurs fans had to say about the links with the player.
