Manchester United have taken a lead in the race to sign Celtic defender Kieran Tierney.
This comes after Everton have began to explore alternative targets as they look for a replacement for veteran Leighton Baines, according to the Daily Star.
The 21-year-old is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe and at age 21, he has already captained Celtic as well as the Scottish national team.
Tierney has been monitored by the Red Devils for some time and could be the perfect long-term replacement for Ashley Young in the left-back position.
Young has made the left-back position his own and is arguably playing the best football of his life at the moment.
However he is 33-years-old and cannot have many years left at the highest level.
Luke Shaw has been underwhelming and it can be argued that Tierney would be a better understudy to Young than the former Southampton man.
Tierney may not be keen on moving to United at this point as he is certain to receive regular game time if he stays at Parkhead.
Mourinho should look to buy him now. The youngsters value could skyrocket over the coming years as he matures. Perhaps he can be bought now and loaned back to Celtic to continue his development.
