Manchester United have been linked with a move for Riyad Mahrez following his stunning form for Leicester this season in the Premier League.
Reports surfaced in the French media that United are seemingly interested in making a move for him in the January transfer window.
France Football reported earlier this week that Manchester United had contacted the player’s agent over a possible move.
The Red Devils are seemingly “very interested” in signing the player, who is also targeted by French champions PSG in recent weeks.
Riyad Mahrez’s agent however has quashed such reports and has informed ESPN FC that he hasn’t been in talks with Manchester United over a possible move for the Algeria winger.
Mahrez’s agent, Kamel Bengougam, insists the player is focused on continuing his career with Leicester this season, and has no intentions of leaving in January.
“I don’t have any contact with Manchester United about Mahrez,” Bengougam told ESPN FC. “He is only focused on this season with Leicester City.”
Mahrez joined Leicester in January 2014 from Le Havre for a paltry fee of €400,000 only. He has been in stunning form this season, scoring seven goals already in the Premier League so far.
There might have been an interest from the Red Devils, with United scouts were present to cast an eye over the winger in Leicester’s 3-2 win over West Brom last weekend. However, as his agents say, there hasn’t been any formal move from United as yet.
Leicester would certainly make a huge profit should they sell him to a big club, but the question is why would they sell him in January? May be, the Foxes will consider such options next summer, provided they receive genuine good offers for the Algeria international.
