News items that I wanted to cover but ran out of time during the week:
1) We all hate football agents, but at the end of the day they’re their for a reason, and when they do their jobs within the spirit of the game everyone’s happy. BBC gives us a detailed look at the ins and outs of a transfer deal, and how football agents typically get involved. Add ‘pimping’ your client to top clubs and prioritising money over football, and you’ve got a good idea of what it takes to be a football agent.
2) A couple of weeks ago, Nicky Campbell wrote about bias in sports writing. The problem is that we as readers tend to filter news through our own biases as well, with the result being a hodgepodge of arguments and differences of opinion simply because one person’s imagination works differently than another’s. We (the readers) lack the ability to sift through writers’ bias, and we (the writers) are too lazy or too worried about generating buzz to get the bias out of our system.
End result? It’s all BS folks – everything you read is 90% BS.
3) The FA has again delayed a move on the Burns report, meaning that it will be 2 years before any serious decision is taken on it. I haven’t read it so I won’t comment on the report but considering the delay it has taken, the report is either very damaging, or the idiots in the FA lack the balls to get anything decent done. Serves to underline the fact that you shouldn’t trust the fate of anything important in the hands of too many people. ‘Wisdom’ of crowds my ass. As individuals we might be rational, but as people we are pretty stupid.
4) My take on the problems surrounding Real Madrid.
