The summer transfer window may be over but the rumour mill is omnipresent. Despite domestic leagues and European competitions in full flow there are lot to speculate if we are to anticipate the ‘fast approaching’ January transfer market.
We bring you a roundup of all the latest transfer stories including Manchester United’s mega €50m move for a Spanish left back. Chelsea meanwhile are targeting a Manchester United player while one Liverpool striker could head towards the exit from Anfield.
Manchester United plotting January move for Valencia’s Jose Gaya:
Spanish media outlet Super Deporte have quoted English tabloid Daily Mirror claiming that Manchester United are plotting a January move for Valencia’s left back Jose Gaya. Louis Van Gaal’s side is expected to be without Luke Shaw for the remainder of the season after his horrific leg-break he suffered away at PSV in the Champions League; thus Gaya is being thought about his replacement.
The Spaniard however has a €50m transfer release clause and signed a new contract with Valencia earlier this summer after being linked with both Real Madrid and Chelsea. The 20 year old is considered as one of the hottest talents across Europe, thus its natural for tabloids to get the player linked with big clubs.
It is highly unlikely that Valencia will sell and making a move for Gaya in January doesn’t also make sense from United’s point of view as the player will be cup tied in the Champions League.
In other news, the Daily Express also reports that United has made a ‘really good offer’ to sign Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato on deadline day. The 26 year old revealed, “I won’t lie: two hours before the deadline I had a really good offer from Manchester United. I was expecting it, but actually only found out about it afterwards.”
United however decided to sign Anthony Martial from Monaco.
Norwich City interested in Liverpool striker Divock Origi:
We reported earlier this week that Liverpool rejected Turkish side Fenerbache’s loan bid to sign Divock Origi in the summer transfer window. However the Daily Express have quoted Italian media outlet TMW that Norwich City are keen on signing the Belgian striker.
Origi could leave the Reds in January after it has become clear that the Belgian has fallen down in Brendan Rodgers’ pecking order behind Danny Ings, Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino. With Daniel Sturridge now regaining full fitness, Origi is expected to get even lesser gametime. Thus a loan move cannot be ruled out with competitions for a national squad place for the upcoming Euro 2016.
Chelsea target Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes:
Now this is a shocker. The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea manager has targeted Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes as the Portuguese fears that an injury to Asmir Begovic could ruin Chelsea’s season.
The Blues are already without first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who has been ruled out with a long-term knee injury. Mourinho has thus compiled a list in a worst case scenario which includes Valdes, the Spaniard who is out of favour at Old Trafford.
However the report states that the chances of Louis Van Gaal allowing any of his player to join a top 4 rival is remote. Inter Milan’s Juan Pablo Carrizo, Atletico Madrid’s Miguel Angel Moya and Porto’s Helton is also on Mourinho’s list. The Stamford Bridge side though will need the Premier League’s approval to make an emergency loan signing outside the transfer window.
And Finally…
Bayern Munich are optimistic that manager Pep Guardiola will sign a contract extension. This is according to Four Four Two who have quoted German daily Bild.
Guardiola’s current deal is due to expire at the end of this season and he has so far been reluctant to open talks over a new contract Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge however is optimistic. He said, “We have a great offer on the table, which you cannot just shove aside. We have a first-class team, a fantastic club, a great stadium and a wonderful city to offer.”
“We will have a serious conversation with Pep in the upcoming weeks and we will see what comes from that. I want to win the Champions League another time – with Guardiola in charge.”
