Like the previous summer, Luis Suarez could take the centre stage in Liverpool’s transfer proceedings, as the Premier League’s top scorer emerges as top summer target for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has been on Madrid’s radar for some time now, but following an injury hit campaign, the focus has been shifted to prising Suarez away from Anfield.
Needless to say, Suarez has stayed fit throughout the season and has been adjusted the best player of the league, having scored 31 league goals this season. The Uruguayan was devastated following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace, that ended their title hope, but his loyalty will be tested in the summer again.
Madrid had shown interest in him in the last summer as well, but because of their preoccupation with completing a deal for Gareth Bale, they chose not to bid for the Uruguayan.
According to reports from The Times, Madrid are ‘keen to explore’ whether the four-year contract extension that Suarez signed last December contains a definitive buyout clause, which is reported to be around £70m.
Madrid have no problem in paying that amount and may be prepared to go even higher. Liverpool are under no pressure to sell Suarez at the moment but a huge offer from Real Madrid could put them in dilemma.
