Benfica defender Victor Lindelof was linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window, but Mourinho ended up signing Eric Bailly instead.
Manchester Evening News are reporting that Ibrahimović has been impressed by the Manchester United defensive target. The report also adds that Mourinho wants to sign defenders in January, and Lindelof’s form has alerted the Red Devils. The 22-year-old centre-back is highly rated around Europe, and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United make a move for him when the January transfer window opens.
Speaking to media, Lindelof’s compatriot and Manchester United striker, Zlatan Ibrahimović, stated that the Benfica player is a talented defender, and is ready to play for big clubs like Manchester United. Clearly, the 35-year-old admires Lindelof’s qualities.
Ibrahimovic said:
I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now, and he is growing. Is he good enough for United? I think he’s good enough for the big clubs out there. It’s up to him what he wants and what the situation says. Whatever he chooses will be good for him. I know he is hot on the market so let him make the right choice, what fits him good.
The Swedish star can operate as a centre-back, a right-back, as well as a defensive-midfielder, and he could be a great addition to Mourinho’s team. The Portuguese tactician is not happy with his defensive options right now, and signing the 22-year-old could prove to be a masterstroke. Lindelof is still very young and talented. The Swedish international could prove to be a great partner for Eric Bailly in the long run.
