Wolverhampton Wanderers are in talks to sign AC Milan star Rafael Leão, according to Corriere dello Sport (print edition, July 23, page 26).

Bruno Lage is keen to bolster his attacking ranks at Molineux this summer.

The Black Country outfit scored just 36 goals in 38 Premier League games last season – the fifth-lowest tally in the top flight.

And it seems as though Lage has already identified the player who could vastly improve his team’s potency in the final third.

The Black Country club are deep in talks with the player’s agent and are ready to submit a bid for the forward in the coming days.

The Portugal under-21 international bagged six goals and six assists in 30 Serie A games for Milan last season.

He can play anywhere along the front line and is a really exciting talent.

The 22-year-old is a Jorge Mendes client, so it’s little wonder why Wolves are interested in acquiring his services.

He is valued at around €50 million (£44m) by Milan (Calcio Mercato).

That is an awful lot of money to be paying for someone so young and completely unproven in the Premier League.

Leão is an exhilarating talent. He would certainly get the Molineux crowd off their feet next season.

His former coach Tiago Fernandes once likened him to Brazilian Ronaldo, labelling him a ‘phenomenon’.

Whether Wolves are willing to pay that kind of money to prise him away from the San Siro is hugely debatable.
