Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, is a target for Chinese side Shanghai SIPG and will be offered £500,000 per week to join them.

The England international has fallen out of favour with José Mourinho and has been benched in the last couple of games. Rooney has been on the decline for the last few seasons and it seems that his time as a regular starter at Old Trafford might be up.

Shanghai SIPG are managed by the former England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson, who wishes to test Rooney’s resolve with an outrageous salary offer. It remains to be seen how the Manchester United striker responds to this offer from the Chinese Super League.

The complete package being offered to lure Rooney away from Manchester United is thought to be around £80million and Daily Mirror are also claiming that the player and his advisors were offered the deal 10 months ago. Back then, Rooney wanted to continue in the Premier League. Mirror add that the offer is still on the table and Shanghai will make their move once again during the new year.

However, as per Mirror‘s report, Rooney’s situation has now changed. Mourinho’s decision to bench him could force him into making a decision this time.

The 31-year-old will also have the option of playing in MLS if he decides to leave Manchester United. The likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard have done well in the US. Rooney has scored 246 goals in 532 appearances for Manchester United since joining them from Everton in 2004.

The England star will miss today’s clash against Chelsea with a muscular injury.
