Who was the best signing of summer 2009? With price tags like 80m for Cristiano Ronaldo, 50-odd million for Kaka, 35m for Benzema and of course, 40m + Eto’o for Ibrahimovic, it becomes difficult to measure the effectiveness of a transfer just in terms of the team’s performances. Ronaldo does far more for Real Madrid than score goals, and buying Ibra gave Barcelona the bonus of getting rid of Eto’o.
In the end though, players are judged by their performances on the pitch – and our friends at IMScouting.com have come up with a formula to figure out the efficiency of all the signings of summer 2009.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Karim Benzema, Arjen Robben and Mario Gomez all feature in the top 20, but there’s no place for Kaka, and there are some unexpected names at the top of the list.
