According to Wayne Veysey of the Football Insider, James Tavernier could leave Rangers this summer as he’s ‘keen to quit’ the club after five years. The 28-year-old joined Rangers from Wigan Athletic in 2015 and has gone on to make 242 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 120 goals.

Tavernier has been a fantastic servant for Rangers and remained first-choice at right-back before the season was postponed due to Covid-19, but Football Insider say he’s open to a return to England after an underwhelming campaign and criticism from supporters.

The club captain drew the ire of fans after he used programme notes to admit Rangers can’t cope under pressure. Steven Gerrard’s men were second in the Scottish Premiership and only two points adrift of leaders Celtic on December 31, 2019. They’re now 13 points behind the Hoops.

Tavernier has a £4m asking price, but it remains to be seen where he’ll go. Football Insider previously linked with the defender to Newcastle United, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, but there may be other clubs keen on his signature if he does consider a move away from Ibrox.
