Serie A giants AS Roma are interested in signing Nahitan Nandez.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma, now managed by Jose Mourinho, are plotting a summer move for Nandez.
Nandez has a contract with the Italian club until 2024 and has a release clause of around €36 million (£31m).
Italian media outlet Calciomercato recently reported that Nandez’s suitors may not need to pay that much, with Cagliari willing to listen to offers due to their financial situation.
Like many other European clubs, the Italian outfit are struggling financially due to the coronavirus pandemic and would be open to selling the midfielder this summer.
Strong competition
Leeds United are reportedly one of the clubs to have registered an interest in the player. Serie A champions Inter Milan also want him.
Premier League rivals West Ham are also in the mix if reports from Corriere dello Sport are to be believed.
The Uruguayan scored two goals and provided two assists for the Serie A club last season.
One of Sportslens’ European football experts recently gave Nandez a glowing recommendation.
“Nandez would help the team defensively, with his excellent pressing ability giving opposition midfielders plenty to think about,” he wrote.
“A move to Elland Road would be a step up in the Nandez’s career, and the opportunity to work with Marcelo Bielsa could be tempting for him.”
A move to the Premier League could be tempting for him, but Leeds or West Ham face strong competition with so many Italian clubs vying for his signature.
This could actually work in Cagliari’s favour, who could sell the player to the highest bidder this summer.
