Rangers have announced the signing of Portuguese defender Fabio Cardoso from Vitoria Setubal for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract to join the Gers and has become Rangers’ fourth summer signing as manager Pedro Caixinha continues to rebuilt his squad for the upcoming campaign.
Pedro Caixinha said of his new signing: “He is a player who everyone describes as having big potential to be one of the centre-halves of the future with the Portuguese national team.

“We believe in him and he can perform on the right or on the left which is good in a centre-half. Fabio is 23 so having an experienced player around like Bruno Alves is good, he is a player whose one main characteristic is leadership so Fabio will feel comfortable and grow and learn from him.”
Cardoso made 23 appearances for Vitoria Setubal since his arrival from Benfica last summer. The Portuguese centre back had three more years left on his contract with Setubal but Rangers were quick to lure him in bid to bolster their leaky defense.
Speaking upon his arrival, Cardoso told Rangers TV: “I am very happy to be here. For me, this is the best club in Scotland and I will do my best to help us make history together.
“This is a big step in my career and it has always been a dream for me to play here in the UK. The people are very passionate about their football and it is the best atmosphere to play football in and I will do my best.
“Of course, I have to adapt myself to the new country and to the new way of living. I think I am going to be successful though. “I will do my best to help me and my teammates win. A club as big as Rangers has to win.”
Rangers have already signed Bruno Alves from Cagliari, midfielder Dalcio on loan from Benfica, and former Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack as the Gers look to improve their third-placed finish in the Scottish top flight.
