Manchester United winger Memphis Depay is close to completing a permanent move away from Old Trafford. The Dutch international has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Jose Mourinho and will move to Lyon in search of first team football.
Daily Mail have also confirmed that Depay has already arrived in France for his medical and should be confirmed as a Lyon player after completing his medical on Thursday. The report adds that Depay arrived in Lyon last night in a private jet. Furthermore, the club’s official Twitter account sent out a picture of the player with their head of recruitment Florian Maurice.
Lyon had two bids rejected for the Dutch international before agreeing on a £21.6million deal for the Manchester United attacker.
The goalscoring winger has already agreed a four-and-a-half year contract with the Ligue 1 outfit and will look to continue his development with them now. Daily Mail claim that Manchester United have inserted a buy-back and a sell-on clause in the deal.
The former PSV winger joined Manchester United under Louis van Gaal for a fee of £25million. However, he failed to make the desired impact. Depay’s lack of form and game time affected his confidence and the 22-year-old has been a shadow of his former self over the last six months.
The Red Devils recently completed the sale of Morgan Schneiderlin as well and it will be interesting to see if Mourinho decides to bring somebody in towards the end of the window.
