Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has apparently signed a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United.
The Portuguese manager has confirmed that he will return to management at the end of this season and Spanish outfit El Pais believe that he will join the Premier League outfit Manchester United.
The report also states that Mourinho could be officially signed towards the end of April. If not, the Old Trafford giants will have to pay a hefty compensation for his services.
“If United do not sign the final contract [with Mourinho] before 1 May, they must pay £5m; if by 1 June he’s still not signed, they shall pay another £10m,” read the report.
“May is the key because it’s the month in which the vast majority of the signings of players are closed and the plans formed”.
Jose Mourinho won the Premier League title with Chelsea last season, but a poor start this year and the lacklustre form of his key players cost him his job back in November.
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is expected to walk at the end of the season and despite a considerable expenditure during his time at Old Trafford, the Dutchman has failed to win anything significant or even challenge for the Premier league title.
Earlier it was reported that Mourinho has indeed agreed a 3 year deal with the Old Trafford outfit and the latest reports from Spain seem to back it up.
Despite being sacked twice, Mourinho remains a massive fan favourite at Stamford Bridge and there were protests surrounding his dismissal earlier this season. It will be interesting to see how the Chelsea fans react to his appointment at Manchester United.
Furthermore, now that Manchester United will have to pay a hefty compensation if they delay the formalities, an announcement can be expected soon. The Premier League giants need to appoint him before the 1st of May to avoid paying a compensation.
