Manchester United have agreed to sell Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton. The Red Devils have accepted a £22m bid from the Toffees, which could rise to £24m with add-ons.
Everton’s opening £19m bid for Schneiderlin was rejected last week, as United were keen to recoup the £24m fee they paid Southampton when they signed him in July 2015. A similar bid from West Brom was also turned down.
It seems, however, that the French midfielder is now on his way to Everton after both the clubs have finally agreed to a deal. Everton are hoping to complete the signing in the next 48 hours.
José Mourinho, the United manager, has more or less confirmed that the midfielder is on his way to Goodison this January. He said, as quoted by the Guardian:
Before the match Mr Woodward told me ‘almost there’, so I have ‘almost there’. So I’m sad, I’m happy. I’m sad because I like him and he could be an option for us in a long season.
I’m happy because this is what he wants – he wants to play every game, to be an important player in the team. So if this is what he wants, I am happy for a very good professional, somebody I can only say good things about.
The 27-year-old has played just 11 minutes for United in the Premier League this season and was not a part of Mourinho’s first team plans. Schneiderlin, however, would be a great signing for Everton. He is a solid holding midfielder and has loads of Premier League experience. He would add depth and quality to Ronald Koeman‘s side.
The French midfielder could be joined by Memphis Depay, another United player who has struggled for games this season. Everton have also shown an interest in Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessié, but they are facing a tough competition from Chelsea.
