Manchester United midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin, has told the club that he wants to join Everton in the January transfer window.
According to reports from the Independent, Everton are set to make an improved £22m bid for the French midfielder, after United rejected their opening £19m bid. The midfielder has been given the nod to leave Old Trafford, and talks with Everton are at an advanced stage.
West Bromwich Albion also had a £18m bid rejected for the midfielder. Everton are ready to up their cash by £3m, as they understand that the player wants to move to Goodison Park.
Schneiderlin has agreed personal terms with Everton, and the deal is expected to be wrapped up within the next few days. Roland Koeman, the Everton manager, admitted recently that he is looking to add a more experienced midfielder to his squad in January, and finds Schneiderlin as the perfect fit for the role.
The French midfielder joined United from Southampton for £25m just 18 months ago, but he has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. He has played just 11 minutes of Premier League football this season under José Mourinho, and doesn’t feature in the first team plans of the United manager.
Earlier this week, Manchester Evening News reported that the player would be undergoing a medical at Everton’s training ground, Finch Farm, on Friday but they didn’t follow up on the story. So, we don’t know yet whether he has completed the medical. If the transfer is completed within the next 48 hours, Schneiderlin could make his Everton debut in their Premier League fixture against Manchester City next week.
The former Southampton midfielder would be an excellent signing for Everton. He is a solid and reliable defensive midfielder with loads of Premier League experience under his belt.
