French midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin, is all set to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window. According to reports from Manchester Evening News, Schneiderlin will undergo a medical at Everton’s training ground, Finch Farm, later today ahead of his transfer.
Schneiderlin, 27, joined United from Southampton for £25m just 18 months ago, but the French midfielder has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. He has played just 11 minutes of Premier League football this season under José Mourinho, and doesn’t feature in the first team plans of the United manager.
Schneiderlin has not played for United in nearly two months and his last Premier League start came against West Ham in May. He asked Mourinho to allow him to leave United last month, and is now on the verge of reuniting with his former Southampton manager, Ronald Koeman.
Manchester United rejected a £19m bid from Everton for the French midfielder last week. A transfer fee is yet to be agreed upon between the two clubs, but a breakthrough is close. The transfer fee is expected to cross over £20m.
Premier League club, West Brom, were also in the race for Schneiderlin, and had a £18m bid rejected as well. Schneiderlin personally wanted to join Everton, and underwent an additional fitness session ahead of the medical.
If everything goes well, that is the medical and other formalities, Schneiderlin could make his Everton debut in their Premier League fixture against Manchester City next week.
Schneiderlin would be an excellent signing for Everton. He may have failed to impress the United manager, but there’s no doubt about his talent and ability. He is a solid defensive midfielder with loads of Premier League experience under his belt.
