According to reports from the Guardian, Manchester United are interested in signing Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian has been in superb form for the German side since arriving from Chelsea in the summer.
It is believed that the 23-year-old has caught the eye of Louis Van Gaal and United could make a move for the attacking midfielder in the coming transfer window. Van Gaal had earlier said that he will shop for a creative midfielder in the summer and De Bruyne would no doubt be a terrific option for the Red Devils.
With 11 goals and 15 assists in 30 appearances this season, De Bruyne has been the driving force behind Wolfsburg who are currently second in the Bundesliga standings, 8 points behind leaders Bayern Munich. The player had earlier said that his move to Chelsea was a wrong one and he is enjoying his life in Germany but admitted that in football, things change very quickly.
English media outlet Daily Express have also quoted Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs has conceded thatwho claimed that De Bruyne could leave the club if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
He said: “We must be careful, Kevin could leave if there is no qualification for the next Champions League. All the interested clubs are watching, but one thing is certain. If they want Kevin they will have to deep dig in their pockets to find the necessary funds.”
United are themselves in a precarious situation in the Premier League standings and currently sit fourth. However if the Red Devils notch up a European berth next season, will De Bruyne make his return to England? Transfermerkt have quoted De Bruyne’s price at €28m which is easily affordable by the Old Trafford side.
