Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal admitted yesterday that Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea could leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.
The former Atletico keeper has been linked with a move to Real Madrid following a dip in Casillas’ form. The Manchester United goalkeeper is also expected to succeed him at international level.
De Gea, who has been in sensational form this season and has played a key role in keeping United in top four so far, has admitted before that he won’t rule out a move to Real Madrid in future. When speaking to the press yesterday, Van Gaal stated that a transfer is quite possible.
‘In football, everything is possible,’ Van Gaal said, when asked if he was concerned Real Madrid could move for the keeper. ‘We want to keep him’, he added.
Since his 18 million pound move to Old Trafford, De Gea has established himself as a fan favorite and is already being tipped to go down as one of United’s best keepers ever.
Van Gaal has confirmed that the club are doing everything they can to extend the Spaniard’s contract, however, it is believed that the Old Trafford outfit are yet to reach an agreement. Should De Gea decide against renewing his contract, Real Madrid could land the world class keeper on a free in the summer of 2016.
Although United have signed a fantastic player in Victor Valdes, the departure of De Gea would be a bitter blow for the fans as well as the team.
De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes, who has strong ties with Real Madrid, stated that De Gea is a United player for now, but that could change in future.
‘He’s a United player and has a contract there. You have to respect that but things change every five minutes’, he said.
