Manchester United have been handed a massive boost in signing their long-term transfer target Angel Di Maria in this summer transfer window after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the player has asked to leave his current employers.
The Argentine international has been linked with a move away from the Champions League winners, with Paris Saint-Germain and the Red Devils interested in securing his services. However, the Ligue 1 champions were forced to withdraw their interest due to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
Louis van Gaal looks to bolster United’s squad for the new season and earlier we reported that a deal of €62m has been agreed between the 20-time English champions and the Spanish capital club.
Real manager has now revealed that Di Maria has asked to leave the 10-time European champions in the ongoing transfer window. The former Chelsea boss says the Argentine winger and Sami Khedira has rejected new deals, but only Di Maria has asked to leave the La Liga side.
“Di Maria has asked to leave and rejected [a contract] offer from club. [But] if he does not find a future solution he stays, no problem,” Ancelotti said.
“Khedira has one more year and has rejected a new deal. It is different than Di Maria as he has not asked to leave.”
Now it is up to United and Ed Woodward to move quickly in bringing Di Maria to Old Trafford. There must be a concrete offer from a club or two for the winger’s services else the player would not inform his manager that he wants to leave the club.
