Real Madrid secured their passage to the knockout rounds of the Champions League with a 1-0 victory against FC Basel yesterday night. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the night, as the reigning European Champions continued their outstanding form and extended their winning run to 15 games in a row.
Asked about the remaining fixtures in the group and who he thinks are likely to join Real Madrid in the knockout rounds of the Champions league, Carlo Ancelotti stated that Basel are likely to qualify as the second team from Group B.
The Italian manager claimed that “Basel are a better side than Liverpool at the moment and have a slight advantage”.
The reds need three points from their final group game against Basel in order to qualify for the next round. Meanwhile, Basel will get through to the next round if they manage to stay unbeaten and judging by Liverpool’s performances so far, Ancelotti won’t be the only one betting against the Merseyside giants.
