Liverpool are likely to lose some of their key attackers during the African Cup of Nations later this season and the Reds need to improve their attacking options during the January transfer window in order to continue fighting on all fronts.

The Premier League giants are now being linked with a number of attackers and the latest names linked with the move to Merseyside are that of Jonathan David and Luis Diaz.

Liverpool keeping tabs on Jonathan David

The Canadian international has been outstanding for Lille ever since his move to France and he helped them win the league title as well.

The player has a contract with them until the summer of 2025 but he is likely to leave the club soon because he wants to play at a higher level and there has been conflict between his agent and Lille.

According to L’Equipe (h/t Sportwitness), Liverpool have been following his situation and they could make a move for the player.

The report further states that David is valued at €35 million but the price could go up depending upon his side’s progress in the Champions League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be away on international duty during the African Cup of Nations and the Reds we need a reliable goalscorer to supplement the likes of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.

David could prove to be a handy signing for Jurgen Klopp and it remains to be seen whether the Reds can convince the French outfit to sell him in the coming months.

Liverpool open talks with Porto for Luis Diaz

The Reds have been linked with the Colombian international for weeks now and journalist Pipe Sierra has now revealed (h/t Liverpool Echo) that Liverpool have opened talks with Porto regarding a potential transfer and they have stolen a March on their rivals.

Apparently, the player has a release clause of around €80 million but the 24-year-old could be available for a fee of around €50 million.

Diaz has been outstanding for club and country over the past year and he has the potential to develop into a key player for Liverpool if the Reds manage to pull off his signing.
