Leeds United have made an approach to sign Conor Gallagher on loan this summer, according to The Athletic.
The Whites confirmed the signing of Lewis Bate yesterday, but the youngster is expected to be a part of the Under-23 side.
The Yorkshire club are looking to sign a central midfielder who will be used as back-up for Kalvin Phillips, and Gallagher has been earmarked as the perfect option for the role.
Leeds want to sign the 21-year-old on loan from Chelsea. He will be registered for their senior squad.
The Athletic claim that Gallagher has been tracked by Leeds ‘throughout the summer’, so it gives the impression of a well-planned move.
They have pitched the transfer to him already and want to wrap up the deal before the start of the new Premier League season.
The Whites could face competition from Crystal Palace, who are equally serious about landing him.
Gallagher is a highly-rated young talent who spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.
He made 28 league starts for the Baggies, and Leeds consider him a good fit under Marcelo Bielsa.
Although he is not Thomas Tuchel’s immediate plans, the Blues do not want to consider a permanent bid for Gallagher.
Leeds have already signed £13m left-back Junior Firpo from Barcelona and have made Jack Harrison’s loan move permanent.
