Frank Lampard’s agent has confirmed Chelsea will not offer the midfielder a new contract. His current deal runs out in the summer and there had been fresh speculation that his recent performances would force the club to offer him a new deal.
He bagged both goals in the recent 2-1 win away at Everton and fans have been heard chanting ‘sign him up’ throughout the recent matches, urging the club to offer him new terms.
However, his agent, Steve Kutner, has ruled out the chance of a new offer stating nothing has changed since he was originally told the player would not be offered a new contract. Kutner told the Daily Mirror:
“Chelsea executives told Frank in Japan during the Club World Cup, then again reconfirmed with me after the Everton victory, that in no circumstances will he be offered a new contract at the club.
“Nothing since has changed in any respect.”
Lampard has also confirmed himself that he has not been contacted or approached by the club in relation to any new contract offer.
Lampard remains one of the most high profile professionals in the English game which could attract lucrative offers from the United States, Russia or China for him to move at the end of the season.
It is reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is set on Lampard leaving the club, designed to pave the way for fresh young talent to come in and drive the club towards Premier League and further Champions League glory.
Had Chelsea been in a more dominant position than they are at the moment, Lampard may well have been offered a one-year rolling deal, similar to the contracts currently enjoyed by Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
Lampard has scored a total of 193 goals in a Chelsea shirt which puts him nine goals behind Bobby Tambling – who is on a total of 202.
