Manchester United are prepared to pay £80m to sign Tottenham‘s highly-rated striker, Harry Kane, next summer as José Mourinho wants to add a long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimović.

The Swede striker turns 36 this year, and although he is getting better with age, the club understand that he won’t be around for too much longer. United have actively started searching for an established young striker, and find the 23-year-old as the perfect player to lead the attacking line at Old Trafford.

Kane has scored 59 goals in 100 league matches since breaking into the first team at Spurs in 2013. In his previous two seasons, he has scored over 20 league goals in each campaign for the north London side. He’s still on top form, scoring 12 goals in 17 matches in all competitions. On Sunday, he scored twice as Spurs broke into the top four with an emphatic 4-1 win away at Watford.

According to reports, Manchester United are not only ready to splash the cash, but they are also likely to submit a figure that should be enough to lure him away from White Hart Lane. United’s chances of landing him will be further boosted should they secure Champions League football next season. After a stuttering start, the Red Devils are quickly catching up with their rivals, and find themselves sixth in the league, only three points off the top four.

The England striker signed a new deal with Spurs until 2022 back in November, but whether that will be enough to keep him at the London club remains to be seen. He pockets around £100k-per-week at Spurs, and can expect to improve his salary should he move to Old Trafford. United, however, are likely to face competition for his signature. There is a strong interest for him among the Chinese clubs, while AC Milan are keen to bring him to the San Siro, as well.
