Bundesliga side Hoffenheim have signed prolific Icelandic wiz Gylfi Sigurdsson from Reading.
Hoffenheim have reportedly splashed out £6m on the 20-year-old midfielder, who notched 21 goals and eight assists in all competitions last season. Sigurdsson had started the new season with two goals in four games for the Championship, including the opener in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Leicester City.
Hoffenheim have started the Bundesliga season with two wins from two matches, but there was money to spend and a hole to fill after the club sold Brazilian playmaker Carlos Eduardo to Russian champions Rubin Kazan for €20m earlier this month.
Sigurdsson made his Reading debut in the 2008/09 season, and after loan spells at Shrewsbury and Crewe Alexandra that season, he made the breakthrough at Reading last season, playing a starring role as the Royals finished a disappointing ninth.
He was linked with a move to the Eredivisie and Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven earlier this summer, but now the highly-rated youngster is headed to a similarly goal-friendly league, where he has the potential to be an instant hit, with his set-piece and long-distance shooting ability.
