Germany’s Euro preparation has been far from ideal, with two of their key players have been ruled out of the competition through injuries.
Borussia Dortmund superstar Marco Reus is reportedly facing four months on the sidelines with an adductor injury. Reus will miss his second consecutive major international tournament, having missed out on 2014 World Cup with an ankle injury.
Likewise, Antonio Rudiger, the Roma centre-half has been ruled out as well, after he tore his ACL during training with the German squad. Rudiger played full 90 minutes in each of Germany’s last five practice matches and was expected to start for his country’s opening match against Ukraine.
Despite two major blows, Germany still boast a squad that can go all the way to lift the trophy. They have a solid defensive set up and an attacking unit that can destroy any opposition defence.
Take a look at their squad and you’ll find an abundance of quality in it. In Lukas Podolski, Germany have an experienced performer who has a great scoring record for his country. Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze, Julian Draxler, and Leroy Sane are a hugely talented bunch of footballers who can change the course of any match on their own. Plus, there is Arsenal’s “assist king” Mesut Ozil, a player who is likely to pull the strings from behind.
Although Germany do not have a genuine #9 striker apart from Mario Gomez, but Joachim Low has plenty of attacking forwards at his disposal that are capable of scoring goals. For instance, Thomas Muller, an attacking midfielder, has scored 32 goals this season for Bayern Munich and there are high chances he could finish Euro 16 being the tournament’s top scorer (7/1 with Ladbrokes).
Germany scored 10 goals in Euro 2012 and Die Mannschaft will be looking to score more in Euro 2016. They are 8/1 per Ladbrokes to be the highest scoring team in Euro. Can they top the charts again?
