Terry has had a superb season for the Blues featuring in 45 appearances scoring a couple of goals but more importantly has been a rock alongside Gary Cahill in the heart of the defense. Chelsea just conceded 27 goals in the season boasting the best defensive record in the league.

Terry was desperate to earn a two year contract but Chelsea refused to do away from their policy of just a one year deal to players who are aged above 30.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Terry said, ” I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea taking me into my 20th year with the club. I’d like to thank the fans and club for their continued support, and the manager who was instrumental for me the last season.”

It appeared that talks between had stalled between Terry and the club regarding a possible contract extension but with Mourinho submitting his end of the season report to owner Roman Abrahimovic, the captain was called back to discussions and a deal was quickly sought out between both parties.
