According to Sky Sports, Celtic could soon make a move for Birmingham forward James McFadden.
Aiden McGeady is currently mulling over a 10m move to Spartak Moscow, and even if he doesn’t make the move to Russia, it looks highly unlikely that he’ll be at Celtic Park when the summer transfer window closes, with the likes of Aston Villa also interested in the Ireland international.
Celtic have already made seven signings this summer, and they’ve strengthened the attack by adding two new strikers in Scunthorpe United’s Gary Hooper and Sunderland’s Daryl Murphy and Cardiff winger Joe Ledley.
But the sale of McGeady would free up a hole for another attacking player, not to mention a fair amount of funds to acquire that player, and according to the report, the 27-year-old could be earmarked for a return to his homeland and hometown.
McFadden, who has 15 goals in 45 caps for Scotland, started his career at Motherwell, and he burst onto the scene as a teenager, scoring 10 goals in the 2001/02 season and 19 in all competitions the next season. He moved to Everton in 2003 and spent five and a half seasons at Goodison Park before a move to Birmingham in January 2008. Last season, he scored five goals in 32 Premier League starts to help the Blues finish ninth in their return to the top flight.
McFadden is set to be a key player once again for Alex McLeish’s side, but he has only one year left on his current contract with Birmingham, and he hasn’t agreed a new deal yet, so Celtic could look to seize upon the opportunity and see if Birmingham are willing to do business.
