Cardiff look to sign Kallio, Vignal and John once embargo is lifted

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has confirmed the club are looking to sign Tony Kallio, Gregory Vignal and Martin John, with all three impressing during their trials in South Wales, but insisted nothing will happen until a transfer embargo is lifted by The Football League.

Jones said, on the club’s official website:

“They’ve been in with us over the week and we’ve been running the rule over them. We were due to bring them in, but at this moment unless the embargo is lifted we can’t sign anybody. We’re still looking though.”

“There are one or two other things that we’re looking at and things we’re trying to do, but we’ve got to get the embargo lifted off us – and if it doesn’t then we have to go with what we’ve got.”

Kallio, a free transfer after leaving Premier League club Fulham last month, made an appearance during City’s 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday, playing in his preferred position of left-back due to the recent departure of Mark Kennedy to Ipswich Town.

After impressing somewhat in the first half, Kallio then came off in replacement of former Liverpool and Birmingham City defender Vignal, who also had a good forty-five minute spell. American prospect Martin John however, remained on the bench.

After last season’s Play-off Final heartbreak against Blackpool, Cardiff kick-off their latest Championship campaign against Sheffield United this coming Sunday.
