New Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce will have £10m to spend on new signings in January in order to strengthen the squad for a second-half survival push.

Considering that there are multiple needs to be filled with that money, Allardyce will be hoping to get as much immediate value out of that £10m as possible, which means potentially making moves on surplus goods from other Premier League clubs and searching for a few diamonds in the rough, whether below the top flight or in other regions around the world.

Norwegian defender Tore Reginiussen had been lined up prior to Paul Ince’s sacking, but it appears that Blackburn have cooled their interest recently. Austrian striker Marc Janko is another name that was linked with Rovers before Ince was sacked, and given that he might be available for a reasonable fee (though 30 goals in 21 matches for Red Bull Salzburg is no doubt driving his value up), a definite move could be made for the giant goal machine.

More spending money could be freed up by the sale of Manchester City target Roque Santa Cruz, but if the managerial change can bring about a change in fortunes for Blackburn, Santa Cruz might back off of his desires to leave for City. However, if he’s not willing to change his mind about reuniting with Mark Hughes, then the £15-20m that City will likely fork out for him will be put to good use by a boss who knows how to succeed without bottomless pockets.
