Alan Hutton has been very impressed with Allan McGregor’s performances for Rangers so far.
The highly experienced goalkeeper has done very well since returning to the club for a second spell and he has saved Steven Gerrard’s side on numerous occasions.
The 38-year-old rejoined the club back in 2018 on a free transfer and the deal has proven to be a masterstroke so far.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton heaped praise on the shot-stopper. He claims that McGregor has only gotten better with experience and he is a leader at the back for Rangers.
Hutton added that McGregor ticks all the boxes and he has been the ‘top man’ for the Ibrox outfit this season.
He said: “The one who probably stands out first and foremost is McGregor.
“I think obviously coming back, people looked at his age and things like that and maybe thought he wouldn’t maybe be as good as he was on the first occasion but I think coming back he’s proved what a top-class goalkeeper he is.
“I think he’s actually better now than what he was back then. To have someone like that come into your squad and not only put in performances but be a leader on the pitch – you can see how much it means to him.
“Every time he plays he’s an organiser, he’s a leader, he’s a captain in my eyes and he brings a lot of experience. I think he literally ticks every box you would want. I think overall he’s been the top man throughout the full season.”
Rangers will need to plan for a future without the 38-year-old soon and it will be interesting to see if McGregor can hold on to his starting berth next season.
The Ibrox outfit need a summer overhaul if they want to challenge Celtic next year. However, they should keep the likes of McGregor at the club. Not only is he a top player for them, but he could also make a big difference for Rangers in the dressing room as well.
