German giants Borussia Dortmund have been struggling this season badly in the Bundesliga, sitting in the relegation zone. Although it is unthinkable that Die Borussen will face relegation this season, but the prospect of missing out on Champions League cannot be ruled out completely.
If that turns out to be the scenario, Dortmund will/may have to part ways with their top players again. Having sold Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich already, the next big profile name that could join the rival club is Marco Reus. Or may be not.
Reus can leave Dortmund for around €25m only in the summer, and there is no indication yet that the Germany international would commit his future with Jurgen Klopp’s yellow brigade. He has been a long term target of Manchester United, and there is every possibility that the Red Devils could make a move for him should they finish in top four this season.
Bild speculates that in case Reus leaves Dortmund, the German club would switch their attention to Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle.
Schurrle has a contract at Chelsea till 2018, but Bild speculates the German international has a fight on hand to cement his position in Jose Mourinho’s squad. Mourinho said recently that he expects more from Schurrle, following his lacklustre performance in the Capital One Cup tie. The former Bayer Leverkusen star wasn’t included in the Chelsea squad that defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield yesterday that leads to further speculation about his future.
Bild claim that Schurrle is not cent percent fit at the moment. He returned with a viral infection from his last international duty, and in an attempt to impress his boss, he is only putting up frustrating displays and thereby struggling to get into the main squad.
Reus is not motivated by money but he probably doesn’t see Dortmund challenging for title again in near future. Klopp is waiting for Reus’ decision on his future, and in case he leaves Dortmund will turn their attention to Schurrle.
