Manchester United are considering making a move for Roma’s highly talented versatile player Alessandro Florenzi, according to reports in Italy.
The 25-year-old has been ever present for Roma this season, managing 34 appearances in all competitions. Florenzi is a versatile player who can play as a right back and in the central midfield as well.
Italian website Tuttomercato reports that Manchester United are prepared to pay £24m for the Italy international, who has a contract with Roma till 2019.
After a promising start for the Red Devils, United’s first-choice right back Matteo Darmian has somewhat struggled to recapture the form, especially after returning from injury. Louis van Gaal has kept faith in young Guillermo Valera, but United still need a top class defender next summer.
Most importantly, Florenzi is equally capable of playing in all the three positions in midfield. He can be used as a defensive midfielder when needed. Put simply, he could be a great addition to the side.
Tuttomercato has come up with a bizarre suggestion today while speculating on the future of PSG striker Edinson Cavani, who is also wanted by Chelsea.
Cavani is reportedly frustrated at PSG and wants to leave the French champions in the summer, in order to play regularly in his favourite #9 role. He has been a long term target of both Manchester United and Chelsea, with the later reportedly had been in talks over signing him last month.
Cavani is a proven goal scorer and is considered one of the best strikers in Europe. PSG value him at around €36m and won’t lose him for cheap. TMW claim that United are weighing up using Anthony Martial (what? are you serious?) in a part exchange deal for Cavani.
The French international only arrived at Old Trafford at the start of the season and has made a tremendous impact for the Red Devils. He is seen as a player for the future, and the club would never lose such a precious talent for a 29-year-old striker. This is possibly the worst fabricated transfer rumour of the year so far.
