Wigan manager Steve Bruce says that on-loan striker Amr Zaki won’t be going anywhere in January, despite interest from Chelsea and some of Europe’s other top clubs.
Zaki has been out recently with a hamstring injury, but his pre-injury form has seen the Egyptian hit-man linked with Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.
But, Bruce is adamant that Zaki will be at the JJB for the rest of the season, and he seems to be a little perturbed about all of the speculation surrounding Zaki and his other in-demand players, Antonio Valencia, Wilson Palacios, and Emile Heskey.
With the big clubs and their big bucks waiting in the wings for Zaki’s signature, Wigan may be priced out of a permanent deal for him, but he and the other players who are drawing interest are going to be key to their hopes of survival. Money can sway a lot of things, but looking at the big picture, Bruce has every reason to want to hold on to his key players for dear life.
Al Zamalek are going to have a great financial benefit from selling Zaki, whether it’s in January or in the summer, but Wigan stand to benefit financially if his steady stream of goals ensures their place in the Premier League for another season.
