Arsenal’s growing injury list is down to Arsene Wenger’s training methods, according to former Wales assistant coach Raymond Verheijen.
Wales international Aaron Ramsey became the latest player to join several other player on treatment table. He featured in his side’s 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League clash at the Emirates earlier this week.
However, a hamstring injury forced Wenger to remove him just minutes into the second half. The Gunners manager confirmed Ramsey will be out of action for a month after a later injury setback.
England international duo of Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck have been on the sidelines for a long spell. They are joined by midfielder Tomas Rosicky. Wenger confirmed the trio will return to action only during the start of next year.
These players have long gone without suffering an injury for the entire season. Verheijen has pointed out these injuries down to the Frenchman’s training techniques.
“You have to look at it from a broader perspective. If you analyse the situation at Arsenal, you see there is this group of young players like Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Bacary Sagna and Robin van Persie when they were there – Aaron Ramsey and now also Danny Welbeck,” Verheijen told BBC Wales Sport.
“These are players who, every year, are out for numerous weeks or months and that is a big concern. There are six or seven players at Arsenal who are consistently injured for weeks or months every season.
“It tells you something is going wrong at Arsenal in terms of over-training these young players. As a result, their bodies are breaking down. If you want to know what exactly is going wrong, you have to be there every day to see what they do. From the outside, you can only draw the conclusion something is going wrong.”
