Harry Redknapp has urged Manchester United to try to lure Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, as a part of a potential swap deal for David de Gea with the La Liga giants.
Benzema has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks. Both Spanish and England media have speculated on his future, although Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has insisted that the French striker won’t be sold in the summer.
Arsenal probably need a world class striker, and they have the money available for Wenger to sign any striker of his choice. Spanish newspaper AS reported last month that Arsenal are willing to spend up to €65m to lure the Real Madrid number 9 to London.
Harry Redknapp, the former Spurs and QPR manager, has urged United to move quickly and sign either of Ramos or Benzema, as a part of the deal for De Gea.
However, with Ramos expected to sign a new contract extension at Madrid, there’s still a slim chance for United to lure for Benzema to Old Trafford. Redknapp wrote:
“It looks like De Gea is definitely going.
“Who’s going to come in? Will they try and get someone else coming the other way from Real Madrid, could it be Benzema? It will be interesting to see.
“I could see a deal there for somebody, be it Benzema or Ramos? But the good thing for United is that they hold the aces, Van Gaal will want somebody at Real to move in the opposite direction, I’m sure. I’m sure there’s a bit of poker playing at the moment.”
Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether David de Gea will stay at United beyond the summer transfer window. The Spain international has set his heart on joining Madrid and wasn’t included in United’s opening Premier League match against Tottenham. United are expecting him to stay and the club have included him in the squad for Champions League tie against Club Brugge.
