Arsenal are planning to make a formal move for Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev, according to reports from Spanish newspaper AS.
New Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has been pretty impressed with the Russian’s effort in the pre-season and wants him as a back up for Cristiano Ronaldo. However, with Madrid having an avalanche of attacking forwards in their ranks, a serious question mark remains whether he would be getting regular game time at the Bernabeu next season.
The 24-year-old, who progressed through the youth ranks at the club, spent successful loan period at Villarreal last season, where he really impressed for the La Liga side. His impressive performances didn’t go noticed, as a result he has been attracting several offers from English and other Spanish clubs.
Villarreal manager Marcelino Garcia Toral has also expressed his desire to sign Cheryshev on a permanent transfer. Madrid could be willing to allow their player leave the club in the summer, if any potential buyer make a formal approach with a bid over €21m.
Premier League giants Liverpool are also interested in securing the forward’s services, but they have a fight at hand, as Arsenal have now entered the race and are looking to tempt Madrid to enter into a negotiation with a formal offer.
Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. Spanish newspaper AS reported last month that Arsenal could lodge a €65m bid for the French striker. However, it seems highly unlikely that Madrid will allow Benzema leave in the summer.
