According to reports from Italian media outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Arsenal have offered €40m to Napoli for Gonzalo Higuain. Napoli however are unwilling to sell for anything less than €50m.
Despite showing inconsistency, Higuain scored 29 goals in 58 appearances this season, also providing 11 assists in the process. However, his exploits weren’t enough to guarantee Napoli a Champions League spot as he missed a crucial penalty against Lazio in the last game of the Serie A season when the score was tied at 2-2.
Last week we reported that Manchester United are also interested in Higuain while Atletico Madrid alongside Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the player’s situation.
With Rafa Benitez also leaving the Naples based side, Higuain could also follow suit to play for a club which will offer him Champions League Football. The Argentine was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates couple of seasons back before he joined Napoli from Real Madrid.
There is no doubt that Higuain will be a fantastic signing for Arsenal given they are willing to splash the cash for the player who will certainly be an upgrade over Olivier Giroud and could help the London club mount a significant Premier League Title challenge. But will Arsene Wenger meet Napoli’s evaluation of the player? It certainly will be interesting to see.
