Arsene Wenger claims Arsenal were a “fraction lucky” to seal a narrow 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The North London club travelled to the Hawthorns as a second half goal from Danny Welbeck from Santi Cazorla’s cross from the left hand side was the difference between the two sides after the final whistle.
” In the end our solidarity got us through when the legs went in the last 10 minutes. Maybe we were a fraction lucky on the crossbar, but overall it’s a well-deserved win,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.
“Cazorla’s class got us that goal. He had a few opportunities in the first half. He cannot finish at the moment but in providing he is still top class.”
The fixture against West Brom saw Arsenal welcome Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud back to the starting lineup. The victory against Alan Irvine’s side has seen the Gunners seal their second consecutive clean sheet – the first one came during their 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal were a better team when they played Manchester United last weekend at the Emirates. However, the Red Devils converted from their limited chances as they sealed a 2-1 victory over the Gunners.
Wenger believes the Emirates club have been in fine form since last one week and wee unfortunate to suffer defeat at the hands of United.
“We had a clean sheet against Dortmund and we had one today. We had three very good games in the week, one against Manchester United, one against Dortmund and one today,” the Frenchman said.
“Unfortunately against Manchester United we didn’t win but our performance was there. Defensively we were maybe a bit more stable today but I think against Dortmund we had a very good defensive performance.”
